DCHI is looking for an enthusiastic intern who wants to connect, organise and build a platform to enable innovation within the humanitarian sector.

The Dutch Coalition for Humanitarian Innovation (DCHI) brings together governmental actors, knowledge institutes, academia, businesses, and humanitarian organizations in the Netherlands to develop and scale innovative solutions for humanitarian challenges. DCHI’s mission is a transformation in the humanitarian sector by realizing impactful innovation, increasing impact and being cost efficient. DCHI is a dynamic movement that leverages the power of resources, expertise and capabilities in the Netherlands to support humanitarian innovation with a global impact. The Coalition is recognized and acknowledged as the driving force in the Netherlands for effective humanitarian innovation.

DCHI does this by offering a platform for different parties to meet, engage and discuss innovation. Our network of more than 300 parties includes all humanitarian agencies based in the Netherlands, many knowledge institutes, a number of network organisations, public organisations, start-ups, design thinkers, financers and SME’s and corporates

DCHI takes an action oriented approach, on the one hand creating an ecosystem of actors committed to the common objective of DCHI by organizing events intended to inspire and inform. On the other hand DCHI supports different partners in setting up projects,  in all phases of innovation, both for humanitarian organizations as for private start-ups.

DCHI is financed by non-governmental and governmental organisations. The Board of DCHI comprises of the Netherlands Red Cross, UNICEF Netherlands, CARE Netherlands, the Municipality of the Hague, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defence. The Netherlands Red Cross is also our host which means the intern will be contracted by the Red Cross in the Netherlands.

To support our work on a variety of topics, DCHI is looking for intern / volunteers:

We are looking for an intern who wants to:

  • Support in organising events, finding interesting speakers and participants, and realising the marketing and communication around the events

  • Help creating online and offline content (incl. Keeping our social media and twitter up to date) to keep our members engaged

  • Support with innovation projects and workshops that DCHI offers

  • Define interesting partners for DCHI and reach out to them

    DCHI offers:

What we are looking for:

    • A student registered at a Dutch university, preferably end of Bachelor, beginning of Master with a focus on innovation, humanitarian studies, sustainable business, events planning, communications

    • Available for 4 days a week for 6 months
    • Someone with an interest in the humanitarian sector and innovation

    • Someone full of ideas and initiative

    • Excellent communication skills, both in writing and verbally, which you would love to use for the occasional blog post

    • Fluent in Dutch and English, both written and orally

    • Self-reliant, creative, inventive, fun
